Foster Farms (broiler)

Foster Farms is a vertically integrated turkey and chicken company based in California. It was founded as a single turkey farm in 1939 and has since grown into a poultry company with operations in California, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Arkansas, Alabama and Louisiana. It produces fresh, frozen and frozen ready-to-cook poultry products. In addition to the retail market, Foster Farms supplies prepared foods to the foodservice industry, including restaurant and other hospitality operators. It employs 10,994 people. Foster Farms produced 23.8 million pounds of ready-to-cook chicken on a weekly basis in 2022, an increase from 23 million pounds produced in 2021. Its 2022 sales were $2.499 billion, an increase from $2.02 billion in 2021. Foster Farms sales break out is 69.2% retail, 20.6% foodservice and 10% export. Product forms at point of sale are 62.3% fresh and 37.7% frozen; 69% cut up, 27% cooked and 4% raw further processed. Foster offers 962 products and its brands are Foster Farms, Coastal Range, Valbest and Sunland. According to its 2022 survey response, 9% of Foster Farms flock is U.S. Department of Agriculture Certified Organic and 36% is raised antibiotic free or no antibiotics ever. Foster Farms also produces halal products. In July 2022, Foster Farms was acquired by private equity firm Atlas Holdings. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. As a part of the acquisition, Donnie Smith, former CEO of Tyson Farms, was named the new chief executive officer and chairman of the board for Foster Farms.
