Will ‘Barbie’ movie lead to higher chicken breast sales?

People want to know what foods actress Margot Robbie eats, and one staple of her diet is chicken breast.

Pop culture trends often can have an influence on food consumption trends, and it appears that the new “Barbie” movie has the potential to be an example of that.

According to a press release I received, online fitness resource Total Shape revealed a surge in Google searches for the Margot Robbie diet after the movie hit the big screen in cities across the United States. Such searches increased 1364% since the movie was released on July 21.

Apparently, when Robbie, as the movie’s title character, donned a 1950s style swimsuit, it was particularly an “unforgettable look,” Total Fitness stated, which led viewers to know just what Robbie had been doing in terms of her diet and exercise to attain such a look.

One of the staples of her diet was lemon chicken and brown rice for lunch.

Chicken breasts are “considered to be complete proteins containing all nine essential amino acids, which makes them great options for muscle recovery and growth. Chicken breasts are also lower in fat and carbs than other cuts,” the release stated.

That statement itself is a pretty good motivator for people to eat chicken breasts.

Other foods that are a regular part of Robbie’s consumption include porridge with blueberries, kale and apple smoothies, mackerel with tomatoes and cucumbers, tuna steaks, sweet potatoes, and vegetables with rice noodles.

How influential are celebrity diets?

“It’s fascinating to see that from the new “Barbie” movie, one of the main points of interest is Margot Robbie’s diet – it certainly reflects celebrities’ influence on fitness,” a Total Shape spokesperson said.

But now that we know that chicken breasts are a key part of Robbie’s diet, and that her appearance in “Barbie” has people wanting to know what she eats to become so fit, can we expect an uptick in chicken breast sales?

Time will tell, but I would venture a guess that it might at least have some impact.

There definitely is an interest in celebrity diets. Some of my past blog posts have been about that very topic. And all have been well read.

Examples of those include:

The Matt Damon blog post in particular has been popular, consistently being one of the most read pieces of content on WATTPoultry.com since it first appeared in 2016.

Regardless of how many people read this blog post, the interest in Robbie’s diet is there, and if that interest translates into increased chicken sales, that’s certainly good news for the poultry industry.
